|||||| SET AND SETTING (Prosthetic Records, Florida)
Set and Setting are an instrumental band from St. Petersburg Florida, whose work encompasses drone and ambient music to experimental rock and metal. Their debut album "Equanimity", was issued in 2013 via Science of Silence Records, which they supported with the effort of DIY touring throughout the underground and extreme music scenes in all of the U.S. and parts of Canada. In 2014, Set and Setting released their second album, "A Vivid Memory" via Prosthetic Records and continued to tour internationally and locally with bands such as Mouth of the Architect, EyeHateGod, Inter Arma, and Kayo Dot throughout 2015. 2016 brought a tough year of writing and recording while battling injuries within the band limiting live performances. The beginning of 2017 brought Set and Setting's third full-length album, "Reflectionless" along with a European Tour and a stop at the renown Dunk!Festival in Belgium.
|||||| THISQUIETARMY - (Consouling Sounds, Montreal)
Thisquietarmy is the experimental guitar-based project of Eric Quach from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, active since 2005. Revolving around improvised drone music, he takes his sonic experimentations further by adding textural and structural elements of post-punk, shoegaze, krautrock, post-rock, black metal and doom metal to them. The results can be described as dark, melodic, expansive and engaging dreamscapes. His live performances are mostly presented as real-time scores to hypnotic ethereal visuals, which he creates himself for each performance.
|||||| SHOW OF BEDLAM - (Désordre Ordonné / Sentient Ruin, Montreal)
Show of Bedlam has no limitations when it comes to experimenting with sound and style. The lyrics are often cryptic and treat subject matter related to mental illness, hospitals, shame, alienation, and mankind’s fate. They're a beast of sonic versimilitude, fusing the most unsettling aspects of doom, sludge, grunge and post-punk in order to create the soundtrack to your next mental breakdown. Make sure you pick up a copy of their latest macabre masterpiece, Transfiguration!
|||||| C H R I S T (ODT Records, Montreal)
C H R I S T (the band, not the guy) is a Montreal-based group founded by Patrick Fontaine (Ire, The Black Hand), Maxime Jenniss (Cobra Noir), Charles Marty (Sed Non Satiata) and Kevin Bartczak in 2013. C H R I S T is a far more restrained and contemplative endeavor than what would be assumed when looking at the band’s decidedly heavier pedigree. Music develops patiently, with sparsely thoughtful percussion and lush walls of harmonic textures painting dark landscapes that are at both filled with beauty and rife with tension. In late 2015, C H R I S T returned to Hotel2tango to record their second album, CINDER, this time with legendary recording engineer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Vic Chesnutt) at the helm. The album represents the ongoing evolution in sound and structure of the band with percussionist Gabriel Tremblay joining earlier in the year. While retaining the hypnotic repetition that determined the cinematic landscape of the first album, CINDER is a bit more difficult to define. More personal and distilled..and a bit more sinister, CINDER fully commands your attention on it’s beautiful, twisted journey.
